What is NACE MR0175?
NACE MR0175, described as "Standard Material Requirements for Resistance to sulfide Stress Cracking in Corrosive Petroleum Refining Environments," addresses the problem of sulfide stress cracking in petroleum and petroleum refining environments. Sulfide stress cracking (SSC) is a type of hydrogen-induced cracking that occurs when steel and other alloys are exposed to hydrogen sulfide (H2S) and stress. This type of cracking can lead to catastrophic equipment failure and poses serious safety and environmental risks to petroleum refining operations. NACE MR0175 was developed to reduce SSC risk by providing requirements for the selection and identification of materials resistant to sulfide stress cracking.
